Project Overview
About the Position
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for a PhD position on the acoustic performance of timber structure connections, within the QUIET-ARC project. Timber construction is expanding rapidly as a low-carbon alternative to concrete and steel, but the acoustic behaviour of timber connections - where beams, panels and floors meet - remains hard to predict, limiting both comfort and code compliance. The doctoral project develops numerical models of sound transmission through timber connections and validates them experimentally.
The position is a salaried four-year doctoral appointment under the Dutch CAO-NU collective agreement, organised as a joint PhD between TU/e and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), giving the candidate access to two leading building-acoustics environments. The work combines finite-element and analytical modelling, laboratory measurements on connection details, and translation of results into design guidance for timber buildings. The joint structure includes stays at both institutions with joint supervision.
Candidate Profile
Applicants hold a master's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, acoustics or a related field, with strong skills in vibration and wave physics. Experience with finite-element modelling, building acoustics measurements or timber engineering is an advantage. Applications are submitted through TU/e's Varbi recruitment system with a CV, transcripts, references and a motivation letter; willingness to spend research periods in Denmark is expected.
