Project Overview
About the Position
The Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University invites applications for a PhD student position in atmospheric sciences and oceanography, focused on clouds in the atmospheric boundary layer. Boundary-layer clouds regulate the exchange of energy and moisture between the surface and the free atmosphere, and their behaviour is central to weather and climate prediction. The doctoral project combines observational analysis - from tower, radar or satellite records and field campaigns - with high-resolution modelling of boundary-layer cloud processes, within a salaried four-year employment under the Swedish collective agreement.
Stockholm MISU has a strong tradition in boundary-layer and cloud research, and doctoral students join an internationally connected group with access to Nordic observational infrastructure and high-performance computing. The training includes atmospheric physics, turbulence and convection theory, and modern data-analysis practice, with opportunities to participate in measurement campaigns and international workshops during the doctoral period.
Candidate Profile
Applicants hold a master's degree in meteorology, physics or a related quantitative discipline, with strong mathematical background and programming skills. Interest in turbulence, convection and cloud processes is expected; experience with large datasets or high-resolution models is an advantage. Applications are submitted via the Varbi recruitment system with CV, transcripts, reference contacts and a statement of research interests.
