Project Overview
About the Position
The Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University invites applications for a PhD student position in atmospheric sciences and oceanography, focused on mixed-phase cloud processes. Mixed-phase clouds - containing both supercooled liquid water and ice - control cloud lifetime and radiative effect in cold regions, and their representation remains a challenge for weather and climate models. The doctoral project studies ice nucleation, secondary ice production and cloud glaciation using a combination of observations and cloud-resolving modelling, within a salaried four-year employment under the Swedish collective agreement.
The department's cloud group participates in Nordic and Arctic measurement campaigns and maintains collaborations across the European cloud-research community. Doctoral researchers are trained in cloud microphysics, instrumentation and numerical experimentation, and the Stockholm environment offers access to high-performance computing, national observation infrastructure and seminar networks spanning the atmospheric and climate sciences.
Candidate Profile
Applicants hold a master's degree in meteorology, physics or a related discipline, with strong quantitative skills and interest in cloud microphysics. Experience with field measurements, radar or satellite data, or cloud modelling is an advantage. Applications are made through the Varbi recruitment system with CV, transcripts, references and a statement of interest.
