Project Overview
About the Position
Liverpool John Moores University recruits a post-doctoral research fellow in peat paludiculture biogeochemistry and ecology for a two-year fixed-term position. The post contributes to a UK Innovate UK FIP-funded project studying paludiculture - the productive agricultural use of rewetted peatlands - and quantifies how water-table management, vegetation and microbial processes control greenhouse-gas emissions, nutrient cycling and biomass quality in rewetted systems. The findings feed directly into UK peatland restoration practice and lowland agricultural policy.
The research fellow will design and execute field and laboratory measurements, analyse biogeochemical datasets, and work closely with project partners from industry and the environmental sector. LJMU's research environment in ecology and environmental science provides laboratory facilities, field sites and analytical support, and the post offers an established researcher the chance to shape an emerging UK research area linking climate mitigation with farming futures.
Candidate Profile
Applicants hold a PhD in environmental science, ecology, biogeochemistry, soil science or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in field-based research and data analysis. Knowledge of greenhouse-gas flux measurement, peatland or wetland systems, and statistical analysis in R or Python is expected. The appointment is salaried per the university's research-staff framework, and the closing date should be confirmed on the official LJMU vacancy page.
