About the Position

The University of Edinburgh Doctoral College (EDC) Scholarships provide fully funded PhD opportunities for UK and international students. Approximately 26 awards across various academic schools, covering full tuition fees and a tax-free living stipend equivalent to the UKRI minimum rate (£21,805 (2026/27 UKRI minimum)/year for 2025-26). Duration 3.5 to 4 years full-time (pro-rata part-time).

Eligibility and Requirements

• Hold or expect to obtain UK First Class or Upper Second Class (2:1) Honours degree or international equivalent.
• Must have applied for admission to a first-year full-time or part-time PhD at University of Edinburgh.
• Meet English language entry requirements (IELTS/TOEFL can be submitted after application).
• Generally not for those already holding a PhD or equivalent.
• Merit-based; encourages applications from underrepresented groups.

2. Wait up to 5 working days for system checks and receive University User Name (UUN).
3. Log in to MyEd/EUCLID and complete the online EDC Scholarship application.

• Special rules: School of Informatics and School of Physics and Astronomy assess automatically; School of Biological Sciences requires direct application.

Important Notes

• Funding for Academic Year 2027/2028 not yet confirmed; check official portal.
• Cannot be held concurrently with another fully-funded scholarship.
• Business School special rule: 4-year funding only for Integrated PhD; standard 3-year PhD gets 3.5 years EDC + 6 months Business School funding.
